Northern Somalia: more free and better legal system than the US? (locally run, no govt, no taxes)
Maybe Northern Somalia has more sovereign freedom than Western countries. No govt as we know it. No taxes. A better legal system for criminal, civil and torts. Much law is by contract.

"Few societies can so conspicuously lack those judicial, administrative, and political procedures which lie at the heart of the western conception of government. The traditional northern Somali political system has no chiefs to run it and no formal judiciary to control it. Men are divided amongst political units without any administrative hierarchy of officials and with no instituted positions of leadership to direct their affairs"
Payments for crime are co-made by the perp and his tribe - which encourages the tribe to police convicted criminals. There is a bias to reduce violence and settle via arbitration.
Fewer rules and regulations. More freedom (at least for the men, not sure how the women fare). Payments for killings, injuries and insults etc are made in camels or East African Shillings.
Maybe some ideas for future more free societies run more locally?
In any event, it makes for an interesting sovereign read. And may change your views on Somalia over the UN propaganda that "a central govt must be imposed on the country". And from movies such as Black Hawk Down with US involvement in Mogadishu, which portray lawless gangs attacking US troops. Perhaps there is another side to this story...
You can read more details on how the Northern Somali legal system works in David Friedman’s draft book chapter.
